Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair

Exhaust Component Locations:





REMOVAL
1. Raise the vehicle.
2. Disconnect the air injection tube from the converter assembly.
3. Remove the catalytic converter to exhaust manifold retaining nuts.
4. Remove the muffler inlet pipes to converter outlet retaining nuts.
5. Remove the converter.

INSTALLATION
1. Insert the converter hanger rods into the hanger brackets.
2. Position converter to exhaust manifold studs and install retaining nuts finger tight.
3. Position muffler inlet flanges to converter outlet flanges and install retaining nuts finger tight.
4. Align exhaust system to specifications (see image).
5. Torque converter to exhaust manifold nuts to 16-24 ft lb (21.7-32 Nm).
6. Torque muffler inlet pipes to converter outlet flange retaining nuts to 20-29 ft lb (27-40 Nm).
7. Attach air tube hoses.
8. Lower the vehicle, START the engine, and check for exhaust leaks.
