IDLE - ROUGH - 3.0L VEHICLES - WARM ENGINE AT ALL AMBIENT TEMPERATURES - 1992 4X2 VEHICLES WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION - ALL 1993 VEHICLES

Light Truck:
1992-93 Ranger

All listed vehicles may need engine insulator replacement. Powertrain Control Module (PCM) changes are for listed calibrations only.

CALIBRATION:
3-56F-R00, 3-56H-R00

WARNING:
THIS MODIFICATION IS AUTHORIZED ONLY FOR THE LISTED ENGINE. PERFORMING THIS MODIFICATION ON OTHER ENGINE CALIBRATIONS IS UNAUTHORIZED AND COULD CREATE LIABILITY UNDER APPLICABLE FEDERAL OR LOCAL LAWS.

ISSUE:
A rough idle may be felt during warm engine operation at all ambient temperatures. This may be perceived as engine misfiring.

ACTION:
Relocate and install new front engine insulator assemblies on all applications. Install a new service PCM on 1993 Automatic Transmission Vehicles ONLY. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Use the following procedure to determine if the front engine insulator assemblies and a PCM require replacement.

1. Perform the diagnostic procedure listed in the 1993 Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Service Manual. Service as required. If, after performing all necessary repairs, the concern still exists, proceed to Step 2.

2. Install engine insulator kits on all listed model applications. Refer to the Instruction Sheet included in the kit for detailed service procedures.





3. If the concern still exists, install a new service PCM with a revised operating strategy on AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION APPLICATIONS ONLY. Refer to the PCM Application Chart.

The Engine Insulator kit (F57Z-6K007-AA) for 1992 4X2 Manual Transmission and 1993 4X2 Manual and Automatic Transmissions include the following:

^ Three (3) Screws and Washers - stamped bracket-to-block

^ Two (2) Nuts - insulator-to-bracket

^ Two (2) Nuts - insulator-to-crossmember

^ Two (2) Screws and Washers - cast bracket-to-block

^ One (1) Engine Insulator

^ One (1) Stamped Engine Bracket

^ One (1) Cast Engine Bracket

^ One (1) 11/32" Cobalt Drill Bit

^ One (1) 1/8" Cobalt Drill Bit

^ One (1) Instruction Sheet (I.S. # 6618)

The Engine Insulator Kit (F57Z-6K007-BA) for 1993 4X4 Manual and Automatic Transmissions include the following:

^ Three (3) Screws and Washers - stamped bracket-to-block

^ Two (2) Nuts - insulator-to-bracket

^ Two (2) Nuts - insulator-to-crossmember

^ One (1) Engine Insulator

^ One (1) Stamped Engine Bracket

^ One (1) 11/32" Cobalt Drill Bit

Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
