Vacuum Diaphragm






Removal and Installation

1. On 4.0L and 2.9L 4x4 vehicles, remove nut from studded bolt and remove heat shield from studded bolt and clips on frame.

2. Disconnect hose from vacuum diaphragm.

3. Remove bolt or studded bolt and remove clamp.Do not pry or bend clamp. Pull vacuum diaphragm from transmission case.

4. Remove the vacuum diaphragm control rod from transmission case.

5. Install vacuum diaphragm control rod in transmission case.

6. Push vacuum diaphragm into case and secure with retaining clamp and bolt or studded bolt. Tighten bolt to 9-12 N-m (80-106 in-lb). On 2.9L and 4.0L 4x4 vehicles, tighten studded bolt to 8-11 N-m 70-98 in-lb).

7. Install vacuum diaphragm hose to vacuum diaphragm.

8. Install heat shield on studded bolt and push retaining clips on pan rail. Tighten nut on studded bolt to 8-11 N-m (70-98 in-lb).
