Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair

Exhaust System w/Catalytic Converter:





1. Remove the two nuts securing the converter pipe assembly to the muffler assembly.
2. Remove the muffler assembly front bracket and insulator assemble.
3. Remove the exhaust manifold stud nuts and slide the exhaust assembly rearward.
4. Move the converter assembly rearward and rotate assemble to clear the studs.
5. Remove the converter from the vehicle and clean all mating surfaces.
6. Install the Y-pipe on the exhaust manifold and loosely install the nuts.
7. Using a new gasket, install the converter to the muffler assembly. Torque the nuts to 18-26 lb. ft. (25-35 N-m).
8. Install the muffler assembly to the bracket and insulator assembly. Torque the nuts to 18-26 lb. ft. (25-35 N-m).
9. Alternately tighten the manifold nuts to a final torque of 25-34 lb. ft. (34-46 N-m).
