AOD
REMOVAL1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Drain transmission fluid from pan. After fluid is drained, install pan.
3. Remove converter drain plug access cover from lower end of converter housing. Rotate engine to gain access to converter drain plug. Remove drain plug, drain fluid from converter, then replace drain plug.
4. Remove converter to flywheel attaching nuts, then the driveshaft from vehicle.
5. Disconnect battery cable from starter motor, then remove starter motor. Disconnect neutral start switch electrical connector.
6. Remove rear mount to crossmember bolts and crossmember to frame bolts.
7. Remove engine rear support to extension housing bolts.
8. Disconnect manual linkage and TV cable or rod from transmission, then remove bolts securing bell crank bracket to converter housing.
9. On 4x4 models, remove transfer case.
10. On all models, raise transmission with suitable jack and remove crossmember.
NOTE: 4x4 models are equipped with a deep well oil pan. Ensure jack used will allow for the increased oil pan depth and still provide adequate support for transmission.
11. Lower transmission slightly and disconnect oil cooler lines and speedometer cable from transmission.
12. Remove filler tube and dipstick from transmission.
13. With transmission secured to jack, remove converter housing to cylinder block attaching bolts. Move transmission and converter assembly rearward, then lower transmission and remove from under vehicle.
INSTALLATION
1. Reverse procedure to install.
