Disassembly

Rear Disc Brake Caliper Assembly:





The illustration is an exploded view of the rear disc brake caliper.
1. Remove the rear disc brake caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper: Service and Repair.
2. Open the bleeder screw and drain the brake fluid from the rear disc brake caliper through the rear wheel brake hose fitting. After draining the fluid, close the bleeder screw.
3. Remove and discard the dust cover.
4. Remove the screw plug.

Brake Adjuster Screw:





5. Turn the brake adjuster screw CLOCKWISE with an Allen wrench to remove the rear disc brake caliper piston from the rear disc brake adjuster spindle. Remove the rear disc brake caliper piston from the rear disc brake caliper bore.
6. Remove the snap ring.
7. Remove the rear disc brake adjuster spindle.
8. Remove and discard the 0-ring.
9. Remove the brake connecting link.

Remove The Piston Seal:





CAUTION: Use a plastic or wooden pick to remove the seal. A metal tool can scratch or nick the seal grove and possibly cause a seal leak.

10. Remove and discard the piston seal from the rear disc brake caliper.
11. Remove the rear wheel brake caliper spring.
12. Mark the relationship between the rear brake operating lever and the shaft. Remove the rear brake operating lever from the shaft.
13. Remove and discard the rear brake operating lever boot.
14. Remove and discard the brake caliper bolt dust boot and the caliper sleeve.
