ENGINE - 4.0L - REVISED TORQUE PROCEDURES AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR CYLINDER HEAD BOLT AND ROCKER ARM STAND BOLTS - INTAKE MANIFOLD SEALING SERVICE TIP

LIGHT TRUCK:
1990-94 AEROSTAR, RANGER
1991-94 EXPLORER

ISSUE:
Corrections to the 1990-94 Aerostar and Ranger, and 1991-94 Explorer Powertrain/Drivetrain Service Manuals have been made. These corrections include improperly sequenced torque procedures and torque specifications.

ACTION:
Refer to the following for all the Service Manual updates.

1. Page 03-01C-18, Step 2, torque specification should be 32 N-m +90° (24 lb.ft. +90°).

2. Page 03-01C-18, Illustration, torque specification should be 32 N-m +90° (24 lb.ft. +90°).

3. Page 03-01C-23, Step 2, torque specification should be 30 N-m (22 lb.ft.).

4. Page 03-01C-23, Step 3, apply Silicone Sealer (Loctite 598, F1AZ-19562 A, or equivalent) to the block and cylinder head mating surfaces at the four corners shown. Install the intake manifold gasket and again apply sealer to the four corner locations.

5. Page 03-01C-24, Step 5, torque specification should be 70 N-m (52 lb.ft.). Refer to TSB 94-5B-48.

6. Page 03-01C-24, Step 7, bolt rotation should be 90°. Refer to TSB 94-5B-48.

7. Page 03-01C-68, Step 46, torque specification should be 30 N-m (22 lb.ft.). Refer to TSB 94-5B-48.

8. Page 03-01C-68, Step 47, apply Silicone Sealer (Loctite 598, F1AZ-19562 A, or equivalent) to the block and cylinder head mating surfaces at the four corners shown. Install the intake manifold gasket and again apply sealer to the four corner locations. Refer to TSB 94-5B-48.

9. Page 03-01C-69, Step 49, torque specification should be 70 N-m (52 lb.ft.). Refer to TSB 94-5B-48.

10. Page 03-01C-69, Step 51, bolt rotation should be 90°. Refer to TSB 94-5B-48.

11. Page 03-01C-69, Illustration, torque specification should be 32 N-m +90° (24 lb.ft. +90°). Refer to TSB 94-5B-48.

12. Page 03-01C-79, Torque Specification Table, Rocker Arm Stand, bolts should be 32 N-m +90° (24 lb.ft. +90°). Refer to TSB 94-5B-48.
