This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Ford Motor Company has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in all 1994 and certain 1995 model year F-Series Super Cab trucks with the 40/20/40 Power Driver's Seat.
Safety Defect
The wire harness for the power adjustable lumbar support mechanism for the front driver's seat may become damaged from contact with the steel wire support structure of the front seat cushion. An electrical short may develop; this could generate heat in the support wires. Damage to the foam in the front seat cushion, unpleasant odor and smoke could result. A potential for fire is also present.
Repairs
At no charge to you, your dealer will remove the driver's seat, install a protective covering on the power seat wire harness and wrap it with electrical tape. The wire harness will also be rerouted. Dealers currently have instructions and parts ordering information.
How Long Will It Take?
The time needed for this service is about one half hour. However, due to service scheduling times, your dealer may need your vehicle for one full working day.
Call Your Dealer
Call your dealer without delay. Ask for a service date and whether parts are in stock for Safety Recall 96S37.
If your dealer does not have the parts in stock, they can be ordered before scheduling your service date. Parts would be expected to arrive within a week.
When you bring your truck in, show the dealer this letter.
If you misplace this letter, your dealer will still do the work, free of charge.
Changed Address or Sold The Truck?
Please fill out the enclosed prepaid postcard and mail it to us if you have changed your address or sold the truck.
