Attachment III - Technical Instructions

BEFORE PROCEEDING, CHECK OASIS TO VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS AFFECTED

INSPECTION
1. Turn ignition key to the "Key-on" position. Verify that the airbag readiness light in the instrument panel illuminates for 6-8 seconds and then goes out. If so, release the vehicle. If not, proceed to "Diagnostic Monitor Replacement" below.

DIAGNOSTIC MONITOR REPLACEMENT

WARNING
The electrical circuit necessary for air bag system deployment is powered directly from the battery and backup power supply. To avoid accidental deployment and possible personal injury, the positive battery cable must be disconnected for at least one minute prior to servicing or replacing any system components.

NOTE
Record radio stations prior to disconnecting the positive battery cables.

1. Disconnect positive battery cable and wait at least one minute for backup power supply energy to be depleted.

2. Locate air bag diagnostic monitor (all black) beneath the instrument panel and to the right of the steering column. Only monitors which are all black are to be replaced. Blue/black monitors are ok.

3. Depress tabs retaining air bag diagnostic monitor bracket (14BO58). Slide air bag diagnostic monitor off air bag monitor bracket.
NOTE:
Replace monitor only if the entire monitor housing is black.

4. Disconnect two electrical wiring connectors from air bag diagnostic monitor and remove the air bag diagnostic monitor.

5. Install correct air bag diagnostic monitor (black body with blue base) - Reverse removal procedures to install.

6. Run system prove-out check:

Turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN and visually monitor the air bag indicator. The air bag indicator will light continuously for 6-8 seconds and then go out. If it does, release the vehicle. If a system fault is present, the indicator will either fail to light, remain lit continuously or flash. The flashing may not begin until approximately 30 seconds after the ignition switch has been turned from OFF to RUN. This is the time required for the air bag diagnostic monitor to complete testing of the system. If a fault is present, refer to Section 01-20B of the service manual.

7. Reset radio stations.

8. Return the removed air bag diagnostic monitor. See Attachment II for instructions.
