Adaptive Strategy

PURPOSE
Adaptive Idle Air Control Strategy
Adaptive Idle Air Control (IAC) strategy adjusts the IAC calibration to correct for wear and aging of components. When engine conditions meet the adaptive strategy learning requirements, the strategy monitors the engine and determines values required for ideal idle calibration. These values are stored and used as a correction factor when controlling idle speed.

Adaptive Fuel Control Strategy
The adaptive fuel control strategy compensates for changes in the fuel system components. During normal engine operation, the fuel system is detected to be biased rich or lean. The adaptive fuel control makes function changes in fuel delivery calculation.

Keep Alive Memory
Adaptive fuel and idle strategies in Keep Alive Memory (KAM) retains learned strategy values and vehicle operating conditions, even after the engine is turned OFF. Whenever an IAC or fuel system component is replaced, cleaned or serviced, it is recommended the KAM be cleared. This prevents previously learned adaptive strategy values from being used. When KAM is reset the engine must learn new adaptive values.

Adaption values are learned in four separate modes:

- Transmission in "Neutral" with air conditioning "ON"

- Transmission in "Neutral" with air conditioning "OFF"

- Transmission in "Drive" with air conditioning "ON"

- Transmission in "Drive" with air conditioning "OFF"
