Generic Scan Tool

NOTE: A string of characters must be entered into the generic scan tool to perform Key On Engine Running (KOER) self test. Refer to scan tool manufacturer instructions for additional information.

- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC).

- Turn ignition key to the "ON" position and start vehicle.

- Verify tool is connected and communicating properly by entering the On-Board Diagnostics II (OBD II) System Readiness Test. On-Board System Readiness Test

- Enter the following string to initiate Key On Engine Running (KOER) Self Test:

- Enter the following strings separately and in the order shown.

- All string ID numbers (first field) must match the order shown.

- After the test begins, cycle BOO, 4X4L and TCS switches (if equipped).

NOTE: If engine stalls during KOER Self-Test, discontinue test and GO to Diagnostic Subroutine 6.0 DSR6 - Were Any Continuous Memory DTCs Received In DSR2

If unable to activate KOER Self-Test or Tool Communication Error received, GO to Pinpoint Test Step QA1. QA1 - Verify Self-Test Activation Method Used

- After the completion of KOER Self-Test, retrieve and record any KOER DTCs.

- If DTC P1000 is present, ignore it at this time.

- Are any KOER DTCs (except P1000) present?

YES -- Key Off. GO to Powertrain DTC Charts for Pinpoint Test direction (begin diagnosis with first DTC output). [1][2]Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Charts

NO -- GO to Diagnostic Subroutine 6.0 DSR6 - Were Any Continuous Memory DTCs Received In DSR2
