Noise at Wheels -- Brakes Not Applied -- Squeak or Squeal
POSSIBLE SOURCE(S):
- Wheel covers improperly attached.
ACTION(S) TO TAKE:
- Seat covers with a rubber mallet. Repair flanges or replace cover.
POSSIBLE SOURCE(S):
- Loose wheel attaching lugnuts.
ACTION(S) TO TAKE:
- Tighten to proper 85-105 ft lb. Replace wheel if stud holes are damaged.
POSSIBLE SOURCE(S):
- Worn, dry or improperly adjusted wheel bearings.
ACTION(S) TO TAKE:
- Replace worn or damaged wheel bearings. Lubricate and adjust.
POSSIBLE SOURCE(S):
- Glazed linings -- adjustment too tight.
ACTION(S) TO TAKE:
- Remove glaze from linings. Adjust brakes properly.
POSSIBLE SOURCE(S):
- Other brake system components.
- Stretched brake shoe retracting springs.
- Bent or warped brake backing plate causing interference with brake drum.
- Improper positioning of disc brake pad in front disc brake caliper.
- Excessive runout of front disc brake rotor.
ACTION(S) TO TAKE:
- Inspect, repair or replace as required.
