Valve Clearance: Adjustments
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION1. Remove rocker arm cover retaining bolts and rocker arm cover.
2. Position camshaft so that base circle of lobe is facing cam follower of valve being checked.
3. Using valve spring compressor tool No. T74P-6565-A or T88T-6565-BH, or equivalents, slowly apply pressure to cam follower until lash adjuster is completely collapsed. Hold follower in this position, then insert correct size feeler gauge between follower and camshaft lobe.
4. If clearance is not within specifications, remove cam follower and inspect for wear or damage, replacing as necessary.
5. If cam follower is in satisfactory condition, measure valve spring damper spring assembled height to ensure valve is not sticking.
6. If valve spring damper spring assembled height is correct, check camshaft lobe lift.
7. If camshaft lobe lift is within specifications, remove, clean and test lash adjuster.
8. Reinstall lash adjuster, then recheck clearance.
9. Replace any worn or damaged parts as necessary until desired clearance is obtained.
