Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
INSPECTION1. Disconnect pitman arm at ball stud and remove horn pad from steering wheel.
2. Turn steering wheel from one extreme to the other while counting total number of turns. Turn wheel back one half number of turns so gear is centered.
3. Place inch lbs. torque wrench on steering wheel nut, then rotate steering shaft 90° either way across center. Observe highest reading. Overcenter preload should be within 4-10 in. lbs.
