^ GLASS - MANUAL WINDOW - HIGH ROLLING EFFORT
^ GLASS - POWER WINDOW - BINDING WHEN ROLLING GLASS
LIGHT TRUCK:
1993-97 RANGER
ISSUE:
Increased effort may be required to manually cycle the door glass, or the power door glass may bind while cycling on some vehicles. This is due to the tight fit condition between the glass run and glass combined with insufficient lubricant on the glass guide and bracket assembly.
ACTION:
Replace the glass run with a revised glass run assembly. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the window crank handle, door trim panel, mirror, inner/outer mouldings, door speaker and door polyshield. Refer to the appropriate year Ranger Service Manual, Section 01-11, for details.
2. Raise the window to the fully closed position. Then take a rag and thoroughly clean off any dust, debris or metal filings that may be found on the vertical channel of the glass guide and bracket assembly (Figure 1).
3. Once the vertical channel is cleaned, apply a small amount (8 grams) of Multi-Purpose Grease (DOAZ-19584-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESB-M1093-B) to the channel.
4. Lower the window down to the fully opened position. Then remove the forward glass run attachment (Figure 2, Bolt B).
NOTE:
THE GLASS RUN REMOVAL WILL NOT REQUIRE THE DOOR GLASS TO BE REMOVED.
5. Remove the glass run from the door while the window is in the open (lowered) position.
6. Install the revised Glass Run Assembly (F77Z-1021546-BA RH, and/or F77Z-1021547-BA LH) to the door per the following procedure (refer to Figure 3):
a. Carefully install the rigid section of the glass run into the door and align the glass run bracket hole to the hole on the inner door panel.
b. Hand start the previously removed bolt (B) to the revised glass run assembly.
c. Position the glass run so that the top corner of the rigid section is fully seated in the corner of the A-pillar and aligned.
d. Seat the glass run from points "X" to "Y."
e. Seat the upper rear corner "Z" leaving a gap between points "Z" and "Y."
f. Seat the end-most portion of the glass run into the bottom rear section of the door "W" also leaving a gap between points "Z" and "W." Be sure that the upper rear corner is fully seated prior to completing the installation.
7. Once all the corners are fully seated, seat the rest of the glass run onto the door flange using a rubber mallet (Figure 4).
NOTE:
BE SURE THE DOOR GLASS IS IN THE LOWERED POSITION PRIOR TO SECURING THE BOLT.
8. Secure the glass run lower attachment bolt by torquing bolt to 10.2-13.8 N.m (7.5-10 lb-ft) (Figure 5).
9. Reverse Step 1 procedure.
