Evaporator Core: Service and Repair

NOTE: If evaporator core is being replaced, the suction accumulator/drier should also be replaced.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then discharge refrigerant from system.
2. Disconnect pressure switch electrical connector and remove switch from accumulator/drier.
3. Disconnect refrigerant lines from accumulator and evaporator. Plug all open lines.

4. Remove screws attaching evaporator case service cover, and vacuum reservoir, if equipped, to evaporator assembly, Fig. 15.
5. Store vacuum reservoir in a safe place to avoid vacuum line damage, if equipped.
6. Remove two dash panel mounting nuts.
7. Remove evaporator case service cover from evaporator case assembly.
8. Remove evaporator core and suction accumulator/drier from vehicle.
9. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Use new O-rings lubricated with refrigerant oil.
b. Leak test, evacuate and charge system.
c. Check system for proper operation.
