H: Temperature Gauge Display Blanks Out Thermometer Symbol and Lights Top Two and Bottom Two Bars of Gauge

H1 CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR SHORT


^ Unplug wire to coolant temperature sender.


^ Turn ignition switch lock cylinder to RUN.


^ Coolant temperature gauge should indicate cold with bottom bar illuminated.


^ Does gauge indicate as specified?


Yes


REPLACE coolant temperature sender.

No

GO to H2.



H2 CHECK FOR SHORT IN WIRING


^ Disconnect battery ground cable


^ Unplug wire to coolant temperature sender.


^ Remove instrument cluster.


^ Using Rotunda Digital Volt-Ohmmeter 014-00407 or equivalent, measure resistance between Pin 4B and Pin 8B (GND).

^ Is the resistance greater than 15,000 ohms?


Yes


REPLACE instrument cluster.

No

SERVICE wiring Circuit 39 for shorts.
