Pitman Shaft Overcenter Preload


1. Remove pitman arm from ball stud.
2. Lubricate worm shaft seal with drop of power steering fluid.
3. Remove horn pad assembly from steering wheel and turn wheel slowly to either stop.
4. Rotate worm shaft from one extreme to the other while counting total number of turns. Turn worm shaft back halfway to center gear.
5. Using inch pound torque wrench, rotate worm shaft approximately 90° across center. Highest reading should be within 9-11 in. lbs. Turn sector shaft adjusting screw until proper specification is obtained.
6. Hold sector shaft adjusting screw and torque locknut to 19-25 ft lb.
