Subject:
Safety Recall 95S29 - Certain 1993 and 1994 Model Year Rangers equipped with the 2.3L engine - Replacement of the Air Intake Duct and Valve Assembly.
Affected Vehicles
1993 and 1994 model year Rangers equipped with the 2.3L engine, and currently operated in the following states: Alaska, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan (Upper Peninsula only), New York, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire - replacement of the air intake duct and valve assembly.
Reasons For Recall
Vehicle operation at highway speeds over extended intervals, under severe cold, northern-climate winter driving extremes, may result in ice forming in the throttle body. This may eventually cause the throttle plate to remain in the highway cruising position after the accelerator is released, or the speed control is deactivated. Under such circumstances the vehicle may not slow down or stop as promptly as expected. An accident potentially could result.
To correct this condition, the duct and valve assembly on the air cleaner will be replaced with a revised design.
If an owner whose vehicle is not listed in OASIS believes his/her vehicle should have been included, or this condition is observed in a vehicle not covered by this action, dealers are to contact their regional office for approval and submit the claim under this program to obtain reimbursement.
