KE16 - Check For Condition Affecting Idle

- Check engine vacuum hoses for leaks. Refer Emission Control Systems/Diagrams.

- Check throttle linkage and/or speed control linkage for binding.

- Check that throttle plates are closed.

- Check for induction system leaks. (i.e. Idle Air Control (IAC) solenoid to throttle body gasket , Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) flange gasket, loose IAC/EGR/Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV), etc.)

- Check throttle body for proper operation refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction/Testing and Inspection.

- Verify base timing is to specification.

- Verify that Canister Purge (CANP) solenoid is not stuck open.

- Are all the above checks OK?

Yes -- Go to KE17. KE17 - Check For Internal Short to IAC Solenoid Case

No -- Service as necessary. Rerun quick test. Quick Test Appendix (Detailed Testing Instructions)
