Shift Modulator: Service and Repair






1. Drain transaxle fluid, then disconnect vacuum hose from vacuum diaphragm.

Diaphragm Rod Applications:





2. Unscrew vacuum unit by hand, while holding flange with suitable pliers, remove O-ring and vacuum diaphragm rod from case. Diaphragm control rod is a selective component. If diaphragm is to be replaced, refer to chart for correct rod.
3. Insert vacuum diaphragm rod gauge T87C-77000-A, or equivalent, into vacuum diaphragm mounting hole (with beveled side facing out) until tool bottoms.
4. Place rod of special tool through opening of vacuum diaphragm rod gauge until it bottoms against valve.
5. Tighten lock knob on vacuum diaphragm tool, then remove tool and rod from transaxle case.
6. Use a suitable depth gauge to measure distance from flat surface of vacuum diaphragm tool to end of rod.
7. Install vacuum diaphragm rod into transaxle case.
8. Lubricate new diaphragm O-ring with ATF, then install O-ring on vacuum unit.
9. Coat threads of vacuum unit with sealer E1FZ-19562-A, or equivalent, then install vacuum unit into transaxle case and tighten with suitable pliers on crimped portion of diaphragm.
10. Connect vacuum hose to vacuum diaphragm.
11. Add three quarts of fluid into transaxle, then check fluid level.
