Aft of Axle Fuel Tank
REMOVAL1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the strategy.
2. Drain fuel tank.
3. Raise vehicle on hoist.
4. Position a suitable jack under the tank.
5. Loosen clamps and disconnect filler tube and vent hoses at filler tube end.
6. Remove tank lower support to frame nuts and bolts.
7. Lower fuel tank.
8. Disconnect fuel sending unit electrical connector.
9. Disconnect fuel vapor hose from vapor valve.
10. Remove fuel supply and return line push connectors.
11. Remove fuel tank from vehicle.
12. Loosen clamps and remove filler and overflow hoses from tank.
13. If necessary, remove sending unit.
INSTALLATION
1. Reinstall sending unit if removed.
2. Install filler and overflow hoses to tank.
3. Raise fuel tank into position under vehicle.
4. Reconnect supply and return hose push connectors.
5. Connect vapor hose to fuel vapor valve.
6. Attach fuel sending unit electrical connector.
7. Raise the tank the rest of the way into position.
8. Install lower support to frame nuts and bolts. Tighten to 87-119 Nm (65-87 ft lb).
9. Attach filler and vent hoses to filler tube.
10. Lower vehicle.
11. Refill tank and check for leaks.
12. Install battery ground cable.
