Midship Fuel Tank
REMOVAL1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the strategy.
2. Raise vehicle on hoist.
3. Remove rear vapor valve from tank by pushing down and rotating 90 degrees.
4. Drain fuel tank.
5. Loosen clamps and disconnect fuel filler and vent hoses at filler assembly.
6. Disconnect fuel tank sending unit connector.
7. Position suitable jack under tank.
8. Remove nuts and lower the straps. If it is necessary to remove the straps, turn the T-bolts that are part of straps 90 degrees and remove.
9. Carefully lower the tank enough to gain access to fuel connections.
10. Disconnect fuel vapor hose from port valve.
11. Disconnect fuel supply and return lines.
12. Remove fuel tank.
13. Loosen clamps and remove filler and overflow hoses from tank.
INSTALLATION
1. Reinstall filler and overflow hoses to tank.
2. Raise tank into position under vehicle.
3. Connect fuel supply and vapor hoses.
4. Connect vapor hose to port valve.
5. Finish raising tank all the way into final position.
6. Install lower straps and tighten nuts to 17-23 Nm (13-16 ft lb).
7. Connect fuel sending unit.
8. Install filler and vent hoses on to filler pipe. Tighten clamps to 3-4 Nm (27-35 in lb).
9. Install rear vapor valve to tank.
10. Lower vehicle.
11. Refill tank and check for leaks.
12. Reconnect battery ground cable.
13. Start engine and recheck for leaks.
