Parking Brake Control: Description and Operation
PURPOSE
The parking brake control operates the rear brakes to lock them in the applied position.
OPERATION
The parking brake system is an independent system that is operated by the parking brake control (2780). The parking brake control operates the shoes through cables and an equalizer assembly.
The explorer has rear disk brakes, but the parking brake is a shoe and drum system. Operating parking brake control pulls the parking brake cables, which in turn pull levers at each rear wheel. The levers operate the parking brake shoes, which then expand inside the drum-and-hat type rear disk brake rotor.
