B - Warning Chime/Buzzer Not Operating Properly
Pinpoint Test B: Warning Chime/Buzzer Not Operating ProperlyB1 - Check Warning Chime System Fuse
- If warning chime/buzzer is properly connected, check the warning chime/buzzer system fuse.
Is the fuse blown?
YES REPLACE fuse.
NO GO to B2.
B2 - Check For Voltage At Circuit 640 (R/Y)
- Disconnect warning chime/buzzer module.
- Connect a 12-volt test lamp between circuit 640 (R/Y) in warning chime/buzzer connector and a known ground.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN.
Does the test lamp light?
YES GO to B3 .
NO CHECK circuit 640 (R/Y) back to ignition switch . SERVICE as required. REPEAT B2.
B3 - Check For Ground At Circuit 57 (BK)
- Connect a 12-volt test lamp between circuit 640 (R/Y) and 57 (BK) in warning chime/buzzer connector.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN.
Does the test lamp light?
YES GO to B4 .
NO CHECK circuit 57 (BK) back to body ground. SERVICE as required. REPEAT B3.
B4 - Check Circuit 450 (DG/LG) And Safety Belt Warning Lamp Bulb
- Connect jumper between circuit 450 (DG/LG) and circuit 640 (R/Y) in warning chime/buzzer module.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN.
Does the safety belt warning lamp light?
YES GO to B5.
NO CHECK circuit 450 (DG/LG) back to safety belt warning lamp bulb. CHECK bulb. SERVICE as required. REPEAT B4 .
B5 - Check For Ground At Circuit 85 (BR/LB)
- Retract safety belts.
- Connect a 12-volt test lamp between circuit 85 (BR/LB) and circuit 640 (R/Y) in warning chime/buzzer connector.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN.
Does the test lamp light?
YES GO to B6 or B9 as appropriate.
NO CHECK circuit 85 (BR/LB) back to safety belt switch. SERVICE as required. REPEAT B5 .
B6 - Check For Ground At Circuit 158 (BK/PK)
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position.
- Connect a 12-volt test lamp between circuit 158 (BK/PK) and circuit 640 (R/Y) in warning chime/buzzer connector.
- Insert key in ignition.
Does the test lamp light?
YES GO to B7.
NO CHECK circuit 158 (BK/PK) back to key-in-ignition switch. SERVICE as required. REPEAT B6.
B7 - Check For Voltage At Circuit 159 (R/PK)
- Connect a 12-volt test lamp between circuit 159 (R/PK) in warning chime/buzzer connector and a known ground.
- Open door.
Does the test lamp light?
YES GO to B8 or B12, as appropriate.
NO CHECK circuit 159 (R/PK) back to driver's door lamp switch. SERVICE as required. REPEAT B7 .
B8 - Check For Voltage At Circuit 14 (BR) (Only For Vehicles Without Autolamp Or Without Electronic Cluster)
- Connect a 12-volt test lamp between circuit 14 (BR) and a known good ground.
- Pull headlamp switch on.
Does the test lamp light?
YES GO to B10 or B12, as appropriate.
NO CHECK circuit 14 (BR) back to headlamp switch. SERVICE as required. REPEAT B8.
B9 - For Autolamp Vehicles Only Check For Ground At Circuit 158 (BK/PK)
- Open dnvers door.
- Connect a 12-volt test lamp between circuit 158 (BK/PK) and 159 (R/PK) in warning chime connector.
- Pull headlamp switch on.
Does the test lamp light?
YES GO to B11.
NO CHECK circuit 158 (BK/PK) back to headlamp switch. SERVICE as required. REPEAT B9.
B10 - Check For Voltage At Circuit 296 (W/P) (Electronic Instrument Cluster Only)
- Connect a 12-volt test lamp between circuit 296 (W/P) in warning chime connector and ground.
- Turn ignition switch to the ACC posiUon.
Does the test lamp light?
YES GO to B11.
NO CHECK circuit 296 (W/P) back to ignition switch. SERVICE as required. REPEAT B10.
B11 - Check For Ground At Circuit 183 (T/Y) (Electronic Instrument Cluster Only)
- Connect a 12-volt test lamp between circuit 183 (T/Y) and circuit 296 (W/P) of warning chime connector.
- Turn ignition switch to ACC position and press a button on message center keyboard.
Does the test lamp light momentarily?
YES GO to B12.
NO REFER to instrument cluster testing.
B12 - Check Warning Chime Module Operation
- Connect warning chime module.
- Check for proper operation of:
- Safety belt waming
- Key in ignition warning
- Headlamp switch on warning
- Electronic instrument cluster beep tone
Do all warnings operate properly?
YES System operating properly.
NO CHECK back through appropriate circuit(s). SERVICE as necessary. REPEAT or REPLACE warning chime module. REPEAT B12.
