Center Mounted Brake Lamp: Description and Operation

Stoplamp, Hi-Mount

When the driver applies the brakes, the hi-mount stoplamp is activated along with the rear stoplamps. This gives drivers behind the vehicle an additional indication that brakes are applied.

Explorer models are equipped with a neon high mount stoplamp. The high voltage needed to illuminate the lamp is produced by a ballast located behind the interior trim above the liftgate header.
