The function of the electrochromatic mirror can be checked by placing the mirror in the test mode. The test mode is entered as follows:

1. Place transmission in park and turn ignition switch off.

2. Simultaneously press and hold for one second. The three buttons - auto mirror, DIM, and ON - located at the bottom of the mirror.

After five seconds the auto mirror ON and autolamp ON will flash.

3. NOTE: Move shift lever to reverse position within 15 seconds after performing this step.

Turn ignition switch to RUN position. The following should occur:

- DIM LED comes ON and inside mirror dims (darkens).

- Autolamp LED and vehicle headlamps come ON.

4. Move shift lever to reverse position. Headlamps will shutoff and mirror will return to its normal state.

5. Turn ignition switch off. If mirror does not function as described, refer to mirror testing and inspection for dimming function diagnosis or to Step 6 for continued autolamp/exit delay system diagnosis.

6. Visually inspect the components of the autolamp/exit delay system.

7. Verify the headlamp system is working properly.

8. Check the wiring harness for obvious signs of shorts, opens, bad connections, or damage.

9. If fault is not visually evident, determine the symptom and proceed to the Symptom Chart.
