Wheel Bearing: Adjustments

Bearing, End Play

1. Remove wheel and replace three hex wheel nuts firmly against rotor face to secure rotor to hub. Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

2. Make sure spindle nut is tightened to 213-287 Nm (157-212 lb-ft).

3. Mount suitable dial indicator (magnetic base) with base firmly mounted to knuckle and dial indicator point referenced off the center of the driveshaft and joint.

4. Zero dial indicator while pushing and rotating/oscillating (±30 degrees) the wheel hub.

5. Note dial indicator reading while pulling and rotating/oscillating (±30 degrees) the wheel hub. The difference in indicator reading from Steps 4 and 5 is the bearing end play.

6. End play should not exceed .003 inch.
