Removal and Installation
REMOVAL1. Park vehicle with wheels in straight ahead position.
2. Remove steering wheel.
3. Remove instrument panel steering column cover.
4. Remove instrument panel reinforcement.
5. Remove steering column opening center reinforcement.
6. Disconnect electrical connectors between main wiring and steering column.
7. Disconnect brake shift interlock solenoid.
8. Disconnect transmission control selector indicator loop from transmission column shift selector tube.
9. Remove transmission control selector indicator from steering column.
10. Remove steering shaft to intermediate shaft universal joint pinch bolt.
11. Remove four nuts securing steering column to instrument panel reinforcement.
12. Lower steering column to floor.
13. Using screwdriver, snap shift cable off of selector lever arm.
14. Using screwdriver, lift tab on shift cable retainer and remove shift cable from bend bracket.
15. Remove steering column from vehicle.
INSTALLATION
1. Position steering column on floor of vehicle
2. Push shift cable retainer into slot on bend bracket and snap shift cable end onto shaft of selector lever arm.
3. Insert steering column shaft into universal joint, making sure cutout in steering column shaft aligns with universal joint pinch bolt hole.
4. Raise steering column into position onto instrument panel reinforcement studs.
5. Install instrument panel steering column opening brace.
6. Install steering column mounting nuts. Torque to 9-13 ft lb.
7. Install steering column shaft to universal joint pinch bolt. Torque to 30-40 ft lb.
8. Install transmission control selector indicator. Connect cable loop to transmission column shift selector lever.
9. Connect steering column electrical connectors and shift lock actuator.
10. Install instrument panel steering column cover. Torque screws to 19-25 in lb.
11. Install steering wheel.
