ISSUE:
An exhaust leak or "ticking" noise while accelerating may be heard on some vehicles. This may be due to the flare of the Y-pipe interfering with the exhaust manifold resulting in an improper connection between the Y-pipe and the exhaust manifold.

ACTION:
Replace the Y-pipe with a revised design Y-pipe to reduce the possibility of interference between the Y-pipe and exhaust manifold. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove the entire exhaust system.

2. Replace the Y-pipe with a new Y-pipe.

a. Remove the HO2S sensors from the old Y-pipe and install them in the new Y-pipe after applying a light coat of anti-seize that meets or exceeds specification ESE-M12A4-A on the threads of the sensors.

b. Apply anti-seize to the threads of all bolts.

c. Install the Y-pipe on the manifold and loosely tighten the attaching bolts.

d. Install the catalytic converter on the Y-pipe and tighten the bolts to 40 +/- 6 N-m (30 +/- 4 lb-ft).

e. Tighten the Y-pipe bolts to 40 +/- 6 N-m (30 +/- 4 lb-ft).

3. Install the muffler assembly onto the catalytic converter.
