Shift Point Road Test
Shift Point Road TestNOTE: Ensure engine and transmission are at normal operating temperature before performing shift point tests.
Shift Speed Chart:
1. Place shift lever in D range with Overdrive engaged. Apply minimum throttle and record speeds that upshifts and torque converter lock up occur. Refer to the Shift Speed Charts for specifications.
2. Stop vehicle, disengage overdrive using Transmission Control Switch (TCS). Apply minimum throttle and record speeds that upshifts and torque converter lock-up occurs.
a. Transmission will make 1-2 and 2-3 shifts, 3-4 (overdrive) should not occur.
b. Torque converter lock-up should occur above 27 mph.
c. With vehicle speed stabilized in third gear, depress throttle to floor, torque converter clutch should release, then depending on vehicle speed, transmission should downshift into 2nd or 1st gear.
NOTE: If vehicle is traveling above 30 mph and the selector lever is moved from D to 1, when the throttle is closed, the transmission will immediately downshift to 2nd gear. As road speed drops below 30 mph the transmission will downshift to 1st gear.
3. If transmission fails to upshift/downshift or torque converter clutch does not engage/disengage as per specifications, refer to Diagnosis By Symptom.
