Front Differential
Axle Identification
The front axle is of the integral carrier housing hypoid-gear type, in which the centerline of the drive pinion is mounted below the centerline of the ring gear.
The differential carrier is made of aluminum and mounts directly to the left axle arm assembly. The Dana 35 IFS also uses a disconnect system for 4WD operation and hence does not use hub-locks at the wheel ends.
The drive pinion gear shaft is supported by two opposed tapered roller bearings which are assembled in the carrier housing.
The differential case assembly is supported by two opposed tapered roller bearings and cups, which are retained in the housing by removable caps.
Axle identification is on a paper tag on rear face of RH axle arm. A manufacturing date code and a complete part number is stamped on the left carrier arm between the fill plug and axle end.
