Ignition Timing: Adjustments

1. Warm engine to operating temperature. Place Transmission in Park (A/T) or Neutral (M/T).

2. Turn all electrical loads OFF.

3. Connect Rotunda Digital Tachometer/Multimeter (055-00101), or equivalent, to #1 plug wire.

4. Connect timing light.

Data Link Connector:

5. Connect Data Link Connector terminals STI and Ground with a jumper wire.

6. Verify correct idle speed. Adjust if needed:

Idle Speed 650 ±50 rpm

Timing Marks:

7. Check timing:

Base Timing: 10° BTDC

8. If not correct, loosen hold-down bolts and turn distributor to adjust.

CAUTION: Do not pinch the ignition coil to distributor high tension wiring when turning the distributor.

9. Tighten hold-down bolts to 19-25 Nm (14-18 ft lb)

10. Remove test equipment and jumper wire.
