Ignition Rotor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the adaptive strategy.

Engine Air Cleaner Intake Tube:






2. Remove the three engine air cleaner intake tube nuts.

3. Loosen the engine air cleaner tube clamp located on the front of the engine air cleaner and slide it forward, to allow removal of the engine air cleaner intake tube.

4. Remove the engine air cleaner intake tube from the vehicle.

5. Remove the distributor to spark plug wire ends from the distributor cap.

Distributor and Related Components:






6. Disconnect the two electrical connectors from the distributor.

7. Remove the three distributor cap screws and the distributor cap.

8. Remove the distributor cap gasket.

9. Remove the distributor rotor by pulling it straight off of the distributor shaft.

INSTALLATION

1. Align the distributor rotor to the distributor shaft and install the distributor rotor on to the shaft.

2. Install the distributor cap gasket.

3. Align and install the distributor cap and the three screws.

4. Connect the two distributor electrical connectors.

5. Install the spark plug wire ends on the distributor cap.

6. Align the engine air cleaner intake tube and slide it over the engine air cleaner opening.

7. Loosen the engine air cleaner tube clamp and slide it into position.

8. Install the three engine air cleaner intake tube nuts. Tighten the engine air cleaner intake tube nuts to 8-10 Nm (71-88 lb in).

9. Connect the battery ground cable.
