Starter Motor: Adjustments

1. Disconnect "M" terminal wire.
2. Connect positive battery lead to starter solenoid S-terminal.

CAUTION: Do not apply battery voltage for more than 10 seconds.

3. Connect negative battery lead to clean, rust-free portion of the starter field coil.

Pinion Gap Measurement:

4. Measure clearance between starter drive and stopper. Starter drive pinion gap should measure 0.020-0.078 inches.
5. If starter pinion gap is not within specifications, increase or decrease number of washers between magnetic switch and starter field coil.
