Pinion Test






1. Remove starter motor from vehicle.
2. Place starter motor in bench vise and secure it.
3. Using a fully charged battery, connect the negative lead of the battery to the case of the starter motor.

CAUTION: Do not leave the positive lead from the battery connected to the starter for more than ten seconds.

4. Touch the positive lead from the battery to the S-terminal, then ensure the pinion ejects.
5. If the pinion does not eject, repair or replace starter motor as necessary.
6. Remove positive lead from starter motor, pinion should return to its original position.
7. If the pinion does not return to original position, repair or replace starter motor.
