Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
^ Remove the two nuts and two bolts attaching three-way catalytic converter to muffler and muffler outlet pipe. On long wheelbase models, remove the exhaust catalyst converter-to-rear engine mount U-bolt.
^ Remove two bolts attaching three-way catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold.
^ Remove the three-way catalytic converter from vehicle.

INSTALLATION
^ Install three-way catalytic converter onto exhaust manifold studs and loosely secure in place.
^ Install a new exhaust converter outlet gasket between three-way catalytic converter and muffler and muffler outlet pipe.
^ Tighten the converter-to-muffler flange exhaust pipe flange hold down spring to 37-5O Nm (27-37 ft lb).
^ Position the exhaust outlet pipe frame bracket so the rod is aligned throughout the entire length of the exhaust outlet pipe frame bracket and the U-bolt saddle notch is on the keyway of the three-way catalytic converter. Tighten U-bolt nuts to 23-31 Nm (17-23 ft lb) while maintaining alignment.
^ Tighten the exhaust manifold connection by alternately tightening the manifold bolts to 34-46 Nm (25-34 ft lb).
