Timing Cover: Service and Repair

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
1. Remove engine.
2. Remove drive belt, then the water pump pulley.
3. Disconnect heater hose outlet tube from water pump.
4. Disconnect wire from Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS).
5. Disconnect lower radiator hose outlet tube from water pump.
6. Remove crankshaft pulley and damper using puller tool Nos. T58P-6316-D and adapter T82L-6316-B or equivalents.
7. Remove oil filter.
8. Remove oil pan.

9. Remove timing cover attaching bolts. It is not necessary to remove water pump bolts to remove timing cover.
10. Remove timing cover and water pump as an assembly.
11. Separate water pump from timing cover.
12. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Tighten timing cover and water pump bolts in sequence to 15-22 ft lb, Use suitable Loctite(r) on bolt closest to oil filter flange.
b. Always replace front seal when reusing timing cover.
c. Use a suitable silicone sealer on crankshaft key and keyway.
