Condenser HVAC: Service and Repair


NOTE: Whenever an A/C condenser core (19712) is replaced, it is also necessary to replace the suction accumulator/drier (19C836).

CAUTION: If an A/C condenser core leak is suspected, the A/C condenser core must be leak-tested before it is removed from the vehicle. Refer to the leak test procedure.

NOTE: Refrigerant oil should be added to any A/C refrigerant component which requires replacement. Refer to Adding Refrigerant Oil.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301).
2. Discharge A/C refrigerant system.
3. Remove pushpins retaining upper grille air deflector.
4. Remove upper grille air deflector.
5. Disconnect RH and LH turn signal lamp and headlamp electrical wiring connectors.
6. Remove RH and LH turn signal lamp assembly retaining nuts and remove turn signal lamp assemblies.
7. Remove headlamp retaining clips and remove headlamp assemblies.
8. Remove eight grille opening reinforcement retaining bolts.
9. Remove grille opening reinforcement bracket.
10. Remove radiator center support retaining bolts.
11. Remove radiator center support and position it out of the way.
12. Remove front underhood panel.
13. Disconnect front lamp electrical wiring harness and position it out of the way.
14. Disconnect cooling fan electrical wiring harness.
15. Remove electrical wiring harness from cooling fan shroud.
16. Remove six radiator upper support retaining bolts.
17. Remove two bolts retaining radiator to radiator upper support.
18. Disconnect A/C condenser core inlet and outlet hoses using spring lock coupling disconnect tool (3/4 inch) T85L-19623-A.
19. Remove two bolts retaining A/C condenser core to radiator (8005).
20. Remove bolt retaining compressor manifold and remove manifold. Plug compressor manifold and compressor ports immediately.
21. Remove A / C condenser core by lifting it up and out.




22. To install the A/C condenser core, reverse the removal procedure steps.

- Position A / C condenser core assembly to radiator support brackets. Install retaining bolts.

CAUTION: Make sure correct 0-ring seals are installed on A/C fittings.

- Leak-test, evacuate and charge refrigerant system following recommended service procedures. Observe all safety precautions.
