REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

NOTE: The A/C evaporator core is in unit with the heater and A/C evaporator housing and is replaced as an assembly.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain cooling system.
2. Discharge A/C system.
3. Remove cowl top vent panel to allow clearance, then, in engine compartment, disconnect heater hoses from core, vacuum source hose, fresh air inlet duct and refrigerant lines attached to air duct assembly through firewall.
4. Remove entire instrument panel. Service and Repair
5. Disconnect vacuum and electrical connectors from air duct assembly.

6. In engine compartment, remove four nuts holding air duct assembly to firewall, then, inside car, remove support brace holding air duct assembly.
7. Remove air duct assembly from vehicle, then disconnect and remove components for transfer to new assembly.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following
a. Always use new heater core and core tube seals.
c. Bleed cooling system.
d. Recharge A/C.
e. Torque air duct to firewall and support brace nuts to 42-49 in lb.

NOTE: Vehicle specific information about operation, stored in PCM using battery backed up memory, may be lost when battery is disconnected. If this occurs poor engine performance, stalling and other driveability problems may occur. It may be necessary to drive the vehicle for up to 10 miles to allow the PCM to relearn this information.
