Crankshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.

2. Raise vehicle and suitably support.

3. Disconnect engine control sensor wiring connector from Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor.

4. Remove crankshaft position sensor shield.

5. Remove crankshaft position sensor retaining stud bolts and crankshaft position sensor.

INSTALLATION

Crankshaft Position Sensor:






1. Position crankshaft position sensor on engine front cover.

2. Install two crankshaft position sensor retaining stud bolts. Tighten to 8.0-11.5 Nm (71-102 lb in).

3. Install crankshaft position sensor shield. Tighten retaining nut to 2-4 Nm (18-35 lb in).

4. Route crankshaft position sensor wiring harness and connect engine control sensor wiring connector.

5. Lower vehicle.

6. Connect battery ground cable.
