A/T - Unable to Move Shift Lever from Park

Article No.
95-14-13

07/17/95

TRANSMISSION - UNABLE TO MOVE SHIFT LEVER FROM "PARK" POSITION - VEHICLES BUILT THROUGH 10/11/94

LIGHT TRUCK:
1995 WINDSTAR

ISSUE:
The shift lever may not be able to be shifted out of the "PARK" position on some vehicles. This can be caused by damaged wiring at the connector from the Brake On/Off (BOO) switch input to the lock actuator.

ACTION:
Install a jumper harness at the BOO switch connector. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Check Fuse 7 (15A) in the instrument panel fuse box and ensure that it is not open. If fuse is open, replace it and follow normal repair procedures to find the cause.

2. Visually inspect the wiring at the terminals of the BOO switch connector for obvious damage.

3. If there is no visible damage, check for battery voltage at Circuit 569 (DG) at the BOO switch connector while wiggling the wire to test for intermittent concerns which may not otherwise appear. This circuit should have 12 volts at all times.

4. Check for voltage at Circuit 810 (R/LG) at the BOO switch connector while wiggling the wire with the brake pedal depressed. This circuit should have a constant 12 volts while the pedal is depressed, and 0 volts only when the pedal is released.

5. If a problem is found in Steps 2, 3, or 4, cut off the BOO switch connector 51 mm (2") up the harness. Obtain a F3SZ-14A411-A jumper harness and trim off the wire leads to 76 mm (3") in length.

6. Use two (2) F2AZ-1 4488-A crimp connectors to join the jumper to the existing circuits.

7. Connect the jumper harness to the BOO switch and verify that the jumper circuits do not interfere with the brake pedal assembly.
