Direct Clutch Cylinder
DISASSEMBLYDirect Clutch Cylinder:
1. Remove snap ring, clutch pressure plate and clutch pack.
Snap Ring Servicing:
2. Remove snap ring and direct clutch support and spring using Clutch Spring Compressor T65L-77515-A.
CAUTION: Do not allow tool to bottom out on piston assembly.
Check Ball Alignment:
NOTE: Be sure to align spring notch with check ball in piston.
3. Remove two-piece clutch piston.
Clutch Piston:
4. Disassemble two-piece clutch piston.
Clutch Piston Inner Seal:
Outer Lip Seal:
5. Remove piston inner and outer lip seals.
ASSEMBLY
Direct And Intermediate Clutch Components:
1. Install inner and outer piston lip seals (lip seals facing toward bottom of cylinder) and install into hub using Direct Clutch Lip Seal Protector T86P-70234-A. Be sure clutch piston is seated fully.
Direct Clutch Piston Ring:
2. Install direct clutch piston ring.
3. Verify free movement of check ball.
Direct Clutch Support And Spring:
4. Install direct clutch support and spring in cylinder aligning return spring notch with check ball in piston.
Check Ball Alignment:
NOTE: Be sure to align spring notch with check ball in piston.
Snap Ring Servicing:
5. Install snap ring using Clutch Spring Compressor T65L-77515-A.
CAUTION: Do not allow tool to bottom out on piston assembly.
Direct and Intermediate Clutch Components:
6. Install clutch pack, clutch pressure plate and snap ring into cylinder.
Checking Clutch Pack Clearance:
Selective Snap Ring Selection Chart:
7. Check clutch pack clearance using feeler gauge or Dial Indicator with Bracketry TOOL-4201-C or equivalent. Push firmly downward on the clutch pack. Release pressure and zero dial indicator. Lift pressure plate to the bottom of the snap ring. Note dial indicator reading. Take two readings, 180 degrees apart, and determine the average of the two readings. The clearance should be: 0.78-1.29 mm (0.031-0.051 inch). If the clearance is not within specification, refer to selection chart.
8. After installing the correct snap ring, check the clearance.
