Receiver Dryer: Service and Repair
Suction Accumulator/DrierRemoval
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Discharge the refrigerant from the air conditioning system following the recommended service procedures. Observe all safety precautions.
3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the A/C cycling switch.
4. Remove the A/C cycling switch by unscrewing it from the suction accumulator/drier.
5. Disconnect the evaporator to compressor suction line from the suction accumulator/drier using the Spring Lock Coupling Tool.
6. Remove the two A/C accumulator bracket holding the suction accumulator/drier and remove the clamp around the inlet tube. Using the Spring Lock Coupling Tool, disconnect the suction accumulator/drier from the tube and remove the suction accumulator/drier. Cap all open refrigerant connections to prevent the entry of dirt and moisture.
Installation
1. After checking the male fitting on the suction accumulator/drier for a missing or damaged garter spring and replacing or repairing as necessary, install two new specified 0-rings lubricated with clean refrigerant oil into the male fitting. Insert the male fitting into the tube until the A/C tube lock coupling clip is fully engaged.
2. Install the A/C accumulator bracket around the suction accumulator / drier and install the clamp around the inlet line. Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb-in) minimum.
3. After checking the evaporator to compressor suction line for a missing or damaged garter spring and replacing as necessary, install two new specified 0-rings lubricated with clean refrigerant oil into the male fitting. Insert the male fitting into the suction accumulator/drier until the A/C tube lock coupling clip is fully engaged.
4. Use a new 0-ring lubricated with clean refrigerant oil on the nipple of the suction accumulator/drier. Then, install the A/C cycling switch and tighten to 7-13 N.m (95-10 lb-ft) if A/C cycling switch has metal base and hand-tighten only if A/C cycling switch has plastic base.
5. Connect the electrical connector to the A/C cycling switch.
6. NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
Connect the battery ground cable.
7. Leak test, evacuate and charge the system following the recommended service procedures. Observe all safety precautions.
8. Check the system for proper operation.
