Throttle Position Sensor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery negative cable.

NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.

2. Remove air cleaner assembly.
3. Remove throttle body.
4. Disconnect Throttle Position (TP) sensor from wiring harness.
5. If reusing TP sensor, scribe alignment marks to position when reinstalling.
6. Remove two retaining screws.
7. Remove TP sensor.

INSTALLATION

CAUTION: Failure to install the TP sensor in the following manner may result in excessive idle speeds.

1. Position the TP sensor so that the connector points are opposite the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve. Slide the rotary tangs into position over the throttle shaft blade, then rotate the TP sensor CLOCKWISE ONLY to installed position.
2. Secure throttle position sensor to throttle body with two retaining screws. Tighten to 1.2-1.8 Nm (11-16 lb in).
3. Install throttle body.
4. Install air cleaner assembly.
5. Connect electrical connector to harness.
6. Reconnect battery negative cable.
