Heater Case
Removal
1. Drain engine cooling system.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Disconnect inlet and outlet heater water hoses (18472) using Heater Hose Disconnect Tool T85T- 18539-AH. Plug heater water hoses with a suitable 3/4-inch or 5/8-inch plug.
4. Remove engine cover in passenger compartment.
5. Remove two screws retaining the lower instrument trim panel located on right side of instrument panel (04320).
6. Remove two screws retaining the heater outlet floor duct (18C433) on right side of vehicle. Remove heater outlet floor duct; this outlet duct also serves as a finish trim cover to the heater core cover (18B300).
7. Remove four screws retaining the heater core cover and remove cover and heater core case seal (18658).
8. Remove heater core (18476). Use care not to allow coolant remaining in heater core to spill during removal.
9. Disconnect electrical hardshell connector to the A/C electronic door actuator motor (19E616).
10. Working in engine compartment, remove two nuts retaining the upper portion of the NC evaporator case (19897) and heater (18478) to the dash panel (01610).
11. Working in passenger compartment, remove two nuts retaining the lower portion of the heater to the dash panel.
12. Remove one screw retaining the heater to the heater air plenum chamber (18471) and remove heater from vehicle.
Installation
1. Follow removal procedures in reverse order.
2. Fill and bleed engine cooling system. Service and Repair
3. NOTE:When the battery (10655) has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
Connect the battery ground cable.
4. Check system for proper operation.
