Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve:
PURPOSE
To reintroduce exhaust gases into the combustion cycle causing lower combustion chamber temperatures, thereby reducing the formation of nitrous oxide.
OPERATION
The valve is operated by vacuum signal from the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) vacuum regulator solenoid which actuates the valve diagphram.
As supply vacuum overcomes the spring load, the diaphragm is actuated. This lifts the pintle off its seat allowing exhaust gas to recirculate (flow). The amount of flow is proportional to the pintle position. The EGR valve position sensor mounted on the valve sends an electrical signal of it's position to the powertrain control module.
