Inertia Fuel Shutoff Switch: Description and Operation

Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) Switch:

PURPOSE
The switch is used to shut down the operation of the electrical fuel pump if a collision occurs.

CONSTRUCTION
Consists of switch terminals, magnet, ball, target plate, electrical contacts and a reset button.

OPERATION
When a sharp impact occurs, the ball breaks loose from the magnet, rolls up a conical ramp and strikes a target plate which opens the electrical contacts of the switch and shuts off the electrical fuel pump. To reset the inertia fuel shutoff switch, check the fuel system for leaks, if none are present, then press the button on top of switch.
