Ignition Cable: Testing and Inspection

Spark Plug Wire Remover:






NOTE: When removing the spark plug wires from the spark plugs, grasp the spark plug wire boot by hand, or use Spark Plug Wire Remover T74P-6666-A, or equivalent. Remove the spark plug wire with a twisting and pulling motion. Do not pull on the spark plug wire.

1. Visually inspect the ignition wires for the following:

a. Insulation for swelling or breakdown due to fuel, oil, grease, etc.

b. Insulation for cracks or breaks.

c. Insulator boots for swelling or breakdown due to fuel, oil, grease, etc.

d. Insulator boots for cracks or breaks.

e. Terminal ends for corrosion, cracks or looseness.

Ignition Wire Resistance Test:






2. Using an ohm meter, check the resistance between the terminal ends. Resistance should be: 3,000 to 7,000 ohms per foot. If resistance is greater, replace the wire.
