Compressor Fitting HVAC: Service and Repair
A/C Manifold and Tube - Explorer 5.OL
Removal
1. NOTE: The suction accumulator/drier should be replaced if a refrigerant hose is replaced due to the possibility of dirt or moisture entering the system.
Discharge the A/C system.
2. Remove nut on the A/C discharge line to the A/C condenser core and disconnect pressure cutoff switch connector.
3. Remove two clips on generator voltage regulator wiring from A IC suction line.
4. Remove nut from generator stud and lift bracket from stud.
5. Remove A/C suction line from suction accumulator/drier using Spring Lock Coupling Disconnect Tool T85L-19623-A.
6. Remove bolt on the back of the A/C compressor.
7. Remove A/C manifold and tube from vehicle and cap all fittings and ports to keep dirt and moisture out of the A/C system.
Installation
1. Place A/C manifold and tube in engine compartment. Install bracket on suction line over generator stud.
2. Connect the spring lock coupling to suction accumulator/drier.
3. Install A/C discharge line on evaporator core stud and tighten nut.
4. Connect pressure cutoff switch connector.
5. Install nut on generator stud. Tighten to 15-22N.m (11-16lb-ft).
6. Install two clips from generator voltage regulator wiring to the A/C suction line.
7. Lubricate new green 0-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil and install them in grooves of A/C manifold and tube. Use only the o-ring seals specified for the type of manifold being used.
8. Apply Pipe Sealant with Teflon D8AZ-19554-A or equivalent meeting Ford specifications WSK-M2G350-A2 and ESR-M 18P7-A to threads of A/C manifold and tube bolt.
9. NOTE: When replacing an A/C compressor, use original A/C manifold and tube on bolt from removed A/C compressor to attach A/C manifold and tube to new A/C compressor. Do not use the shipping cap bolts.
Install A/C manifold and tube to the back of the A/C compressor. Tighten A/C manifold and tube bolt to 17-23 N.m (12.5-17.0 lb-ft).
10. Charge the A/C system.
